Sara Gadd (1979) began creating hats whilst studying for her degree BA Design Crafts, at The University of Cumbria, where her initial millinery training took place, from her she has studied at The London College of Fashion and on several millinery summer schools.  Following her graduation in 2002, Sara received funding from RACES at the University, towards setting up her own studio, and Sara Gadd millinery was born in 2003. 

Sara regularly exhibits at shows and events across the country.  Past showcases include, ‘Hatwalk’, Edinburgh’s theatrical fashion event, ‘Avec’ the London Hat Show, featured work for the catwalk fashion show opening of the prestigious Philip Treacy exhibition ‘When Philip Met Isabella’, at Tullie House, Carlisle and Hat Works, the Hat Museum in Stockport, where an example of Sara’s work is now also held as part of their permanent collections.

Sara regularly collaborates with Zoe Gadd of Danceahead, producing exciting headwear costume for PR events and promotional fashion shows.  Clients include The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle, Hoopers of Carlisle and The Eden Valley Hospice Charity in Carlisle.

Sara has over six year experience designing and creating ladies occasion hats, fascinators and accessories.  Sara is available for private commission and offers a range of headwear from her Studio in Corby Hill, Carlisle, Cumbria.  Her work is also available through several specialist boutiques throughout the UK and in New York.
More recently workshops are now also available from the Sara Gadd Millinery Studio, including exciting ‘Hattie Hen Parties!’  Further details can be found on The Studio page.

Sara’s headwear has previously been selected as a finalist of The Hat Designer of the Year competition, her designs have been chosen as ‘best hat’ at Carlisle Race Course for two consecutive years, and she is proud to have added the Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Jacquelyne Geddes to her client list! Sara has featured several times on BBC Radio Cumbria, in CN Newsgroup Publications and on the ITV’s local Lookaround programme as ‘The Day in the Life of a Milliner’; she would like to thank the local press and media for their continued support.
